Calling All Virginia Wine Lovers

I know I still owe a "San Diego Part 2" detailing my brewery and winery adventures in SoCal.  But sometimes Virginia wine has to come first!  A friend alerted me to this great Amazon Local deal where you can buy a Virginia Wine Pass for Two to over 80 wineries in Virginia for $29, a $60.99 value.  Virginia Wine Pass is a program that wineries elect to participate in to provide special discounts to those who are in the program.  It can vary from two free tastings or two for one wine tastings to a certain percentage off of bottle purchases or buy one get one bottle deals.  You can find a list of the participating wineries here.

Tastings in Virginia wineries can be anywhere from $6-$12 depending on location and popularity, so the Virginia Wine Pass pays for itself after just a couple of winery visits.  And considering just how many wineries there are in Virginia, this could save you a fair chunk of change.  Not to mention Greenhill Winery and Vineyards, where I work part-time for some fun wine education, is listed among the 80+ participating wineries as giving 5% off of bottle purchases.  Come say hi!

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

Another fantastic Northern Ireland site is the rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede .  Located near Ballintoy in County Antrim, this bridge was first erected by fishermen about 350 years ago.  It spans over a 23-meter deep and 20-meter wide chasm and was traditionally used by the fishermen so that they could check their salmon nets.  Today fishermen no longer work in the area due to a diminished availability of salmon.  In the 1960's fishermen caught approximately 300 salmon per day, but by 2002 only 300 salmon were caught in a single season. The original rope bridge consisted of a single rope hand rail that was replaced with a two hand railed bridge by the National Trust .  So suffice it to say it's much safer now than I'm sure it was 350+ years ago!  For those afraid of heights, crossing is definitely a thrill since the rope bridge undulates as everyone walks across it.  However, the staff has safety in mind as only a maximum amount of individuals can cross at any one
