Travel Skincare Essentials
When it comes to traveling, especially when you're trying to conserve space, sacrifices are made when packing your bags. My "sacrifices" usually come in the form of chopping skin care products off of the list. I always regret it when I do, but it can be difficult to pack your favorite liquids and gels all into a one-gallon bag, particularly when it comes to carry-on luggage. When I travel for personal vacations half the time I'll carry on and the other half I'll check my bags (usually for overseas trips). When I travel for work about 90% of the time I carry on. Luckily my preferred skincare products come in carry-on sizes...smart marketing if you ask me! Here are some of my favorites.
I spent a while looking for a facial lotion product that had sunscreen in it and had natural ingredients. This is my personal favorite and I've been using it for about three years now. It's not greasy, even when it gets hot in the summer time. I use it in the morning since it's light and makes for a good base for my liquid foundation. And I've noticed recently that you can now find this line in Target instead of just online or at Whole Foods. High five for branching out, Andalou!
This is a brand I found after Tom's of Maine's deodorant really didn't do it for me. You can carry this on, plus it's paraben- and aluminum chlorohydrate-free.
Petal Fresh Body Butter ($7.70)
These aren't sized to carry on, but you could probably scoop some into a carry-on sized container like these or these. My skin seems to dry out a lot easier these days and this brand really helped my snakeskin legs look normal again last winter. Not only that, but it's made in the USA and doesn't have any parabens, phthalates, glycol, or sulfates. Win, win for natural skin care products! Here's a pro-tip: Ross sells these for half the price if you happen to find them in the store.
I'll be honest with you--I'm still exploring the world of cleansing facial wipes. These aren't my favorite as they sting my eyes a bit, but they're good to have to wipe off excess eye make up since hotel soap really doesn't do a great job with removing makeup. (Wouldn't want to stain those nice white towels with black mascara, right?) These work for me for now, but when I run out I'd like to try some from the Yes to... line.
I've been using this scrub for years. I love that there are no plastic beads (which many scrubs use) that will pollute the environment; they use ground apricot pits instead. There's also a version of the same scrub without salicylic acid for those who don't want or need blemish control. This is often sold in a travel size at drug stores or Target.
This alcohol-free toner comes in a travel size and works great for removing any remaining makeup from your face. Plus it has a gentle, green scent that's not overwhelming.
