Birthday Brewfest

I want to thank all of my friends and family for wishing me a happy birthday and for the thoughtful gifts.  I feel so loved!  I always try to do something different for my birthday each year.  Last year we went to a winery and this year we visited a local brewery, Old Bust Head Brewery, in Warrenton, Virginia.  Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and enjoy some new beer with me!

I was very impressed by Old Bust Head's beer list.  They have a lot of IPAs, which seems to be the norm these days (I'm personally not a fan).  But they also have plenty of beer options for the non-IPA lover.  Most of us chose a flight (or two) to start off with.  From left to right, I chose the Bust Head English Pale Ale, Vixen Irish Red, Oatmeal Stout, and Caramel Macchiato Stout.

My favorite by far was the Caramel Macchiato Stout.  This is the perfect beer for fancy coffee lovers.  It smells and tastes like coffee with a smidge of caramel on the palate.  It's not a very heavy beer for a stout, but it's brimming with flavor.  If I'd remembered to bring my growler I would've filled it up with some Caramel Macchiato Stout and gladly drank that for the rest of my birthday weekend!

Coming in second place for me was their Saison.  I didn't find it to be as floral or fruity as some of the other saisons I've had.  However, it was light and pleasant and made for easy drinking.  In other words, it was the perfect beer to welcome Spring and the brew I chose to drink a pint of.

Out of the handful of breweries I've been to, this one is near or at the top of the list.  They have a ton of seating in the form of long tables and benches, high tables, and regular square tops, plus room at the bar.  I would love to go there again during the summer to try whatever seasonal brews they bring into the taproom.  Overall, I'd definitely recommend this to everyone.  Because beer!
