Adriatic Adventure: Rome
And here we are at the end of our "Adriatic Adventure," taking on Rome, our final stop before heading home! There's a TON of tourist information on Rome (ergo, it's easy to find information), so this will be more of a photo montage style of my favorite shots from the city. Enjoy!
Selfie on the Spanish Steps.
Psychedelic shoe store lit up at night.
Hello, Colosseum!
Tunnels under the floor of the Colosseum.
View of the Roman Forum. Simply wonderful how many ruins you can see!
And when in Rome, you check out the Vatican. Let me interject my photo montage here. In all honesty, this was my least favorite part of our entire trip. I was pretty disappointed with my experience visiting the Vatican. It had nothing to do with customer service, but it had everything to do with how difficult it is to enjoy all of the art and history that's inside due to the sheer number of people pushing through the rooms. You're literally shuffling along and trying to take everything in as fast as you can before being pushed into the next room, and so on and so forth. Sure, the Sistine Chapel is great, but unless you're making a religious pilgrimage, I really don't think it's worth the time. It was an entirely frustrating experience.
Posing on the grounds of the Vatican.
The Pantheon, a majestic feat of engineering. Definitely worth visiting to see the sheer genius of the architecture.
A meringue gigantico. I didn't even know people made them this big. It was entirely too sweet to eat the whole thing, but, when in Rome....
We also ended up having an extra day in Rome because the airport was having a lot of issues at the time. They'd just had a fire a week before in one of their main terminals, so our flight got delayed over 8 hours, if I'm remembering correctly. So we took that opportunity to see one last thing, the Capitoline Museum.
And there you have it, the end of our journey!! We started in Venice, made our way through Slovenia, then Croatia, made a side trip to Mostar, and ended in Rome. We had a wonderful time and I hope this was in some way inspirational for anyone out there trying to plan a vacation to any of these countries!
