2016 Travel Destinations

The year 2016 will bring a lot of events, traveling, new places, and memorable moments.  If you've just discovered my blog, my fiance and I are getting married next year, which of course means a honeymoon!  Then, just a few short months later, we'll be off to the other side of the world with my fiance's family to visit Australia, Singapore, and Bali, with a stop over somewhere to break up the trip back home.  I've never been to the southern hemisphere, so I'm excited to travel somewhere outside of Europe (though I'm not as excited about the long travel times!).

1. Charlottesville, Virginia
Later this month we'll be taking advantage of the long holiday weekend and taking a trip down to Charlottesville.  This iconic city in central Virginia is home to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello as well as a flourishing wine and beer industry.  I've been wanting to try some of the wineries near Charlottesville for quite some time now and am super excited that we'll finally have that chance in just a couple of weeks!

2. Northern California
For our honeymoon we've decided to travel to Northern California.  I've only been to CA twice--once to see some friends in the San Diego area and the other for work.  California is a gigantic state and it offers plenty of things to do that fall within both of our interests.  Since I work part time at a winery, I, for one, am excited to go to Napa Valley and see what the hype is all about.  I've also always wanted to see the giant redwood trees, so that's going on our itinerary as well.

We'll probably try to see Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, and Lassen Volcanic National Park while we're up there.  We'll also make a quick trip up to Oregon to see Crater Lake National Park, the only NP in the state.  It'll be a lot of driving, but we're go-getter travelers and typically don't stay in one spot for more than a couple nights.  We don't have unlimited travel time, after all, so we take the approach of seeing as much as we can.

3. Australia, Singapore, and Bali
The itinerary is still evolving for our big family trip, but these three are definitely on the list.  I wish I had more to elaborate on, but research is still in its beginning stage as A) our honeymoon occurs first and B) this trip is months away, so we're not quite sure yet what places we'll see in these countries; but I have no doubt that we'll have tons of fun!  I see lots of beaches, temples, and interesting architecture in our future!

4. Hawaii/Fiji/Vanuatu
Can you really go wrong with any one of these as our stop over on the way home from our southern hemisphere trip?  I've never been to any of these places, but my interest has piqued about Vanuatu ever since my fiance found out there's the opportunity to peer into a volcano and see lava.  For those who hadn't heard of Vanuatu before (including myself), it's a chain of 80 islands in the South Pacific Ocean which became independent from a British-French Condominium in 1980, forming the Republic of Vanuatu.

Where will you travel to in 2016?
