Travel Makeup Essentials

I generally have a minimal make up routine when I'm not traveling, so this makes it easy for me to make quick decisions on what products to pack for travel.  Unless you know you'll be attending fancy events or clubs most nights, I recommend keeping simplicity and a neutral color palette in mind.  I usually pack the basics--concealer, foundation, mascara, and eyeliner--along with a neutral eyeshadow palette, a small blush, tinted lip balm, and the necessary make up brushes.

Below are some of my go to makeup products that I wear most days and also take with me on travel.  Feel free to pull from this suggestion list or substitute with your own favorite product.

1. bareMinerals Matte Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($28.50)
I've recently switched to using a liquid foundation (I'm trying out different products for my wedding), but I've used this bareMinerals powder foundation for years.  One pot usually lasts me a year and it's not as messy as liquid foundation when traveling, so no leaks!  All you need for application is a foundation brush that you can also use as your blush brush.

This is one product I don't travel without as I have always had undereye circles.  It also acts as a great concealer for blemishes.

When it comes to lip product, I like to pack something that's nourishing and can double as a product to dress up an outfit with some lip color.  These lip shimmers come in a multitude of shades.  My favorites are Fig and Plum.  They can even double as a cream blush that you can rub onto your cheeks (yes, I've done this before!).

This is my trusty eyeliner pencil that I've been using for years.  Make sure to pack a small sharpener just in case the pencil tip breaks!  You can find this product in most drug stores.

Mascara is the one item of eye make up that I won't travel without.  I can do without the eye shadow and the eye liner, but a good mascara does wonders to make your eyes look more awake, especially on those long travel days!  I recently converted to this Almay mascara after purchasing it on sale.  Just a couple of light applications really makes my lashes look longer.  I'll take it!

I don't always pack eye shadow, but when I do I reach for a neutral palette that will go with any outfit I put together.  I find that I don't usually use my eyeshadow often when I travel, but every now and then it's a nice self-esteem booster to dress up my eyes a bit.

A little bit goes a long way with this blush.  This is the full size, which will last you forever and packs neatly into a small make up bag.
