Winter Skin Care Products

Relatively speaking, I thought winter here in Virginia felt fairly mild this year (though apparently it's the coldest winter we've had in a while) in comparison to last year's polar vortexes and snow every weekend.  My skin was doing great, I had no dry patches, and I didn't feel the need to shell out $32 on L'Occitane's Shea Butter Ultra Rich Comforting Cream. It wasn't until the end of January when it really started to get cold that I noticed some rather pronounced smile lines, a result of dehydration, around my mouth that aren't normally very distinct.  A trip to dry San Diego and back didn't really help my skin, either.

Rather than spend a larger sum of money at L'Occitane near the end of winter, I opted to see what Target had for a lower price point.  I ended up with Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream for about $12.50 on sale (normally $14).  See below for my review!

1. Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover ($7.49)
Overall I've found that this face wash does a great job removing foundation and mascara while being gentle on the skin.  It doesn't do quite as well with removing waterproof products (Stila's Smudge Stick Waterproof eye liner, for example), though, but that's of course why they're waterproof!  You can find this in any drug store.
2. Andalou Naturals Ultra Sheer Daily Defense Facial Lotion with SPF 18 ($14.99)
It took me a long time to find a daily moisturizer with SPF that didn't have paraben preservatives.  (In general, I try to lean more towards natural products than those with preservatives and petrochemicals, etc.)  This moisturizer is great during the summer time, not only because of the SPF, but because it doesn't make your face oily in the hot, humid weather out here on the east coast.
3. Yes to Grapefruit Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream ($15.99)
This product did absolutely nothing to "correct" my dark circles.  It is, however, a good natural product to use under your eyes as a moisturizer.  When I run out of this, though, I may try something different since it doesn't really lessen the appearance of dark circles as it claims.
4. Yes to Carrots Softening Facial Mask ($17.99)
I first found out about this product while perusing the cosmetics at Ross, so I got it at a pretty great price.  Since then I've repurchased from Target.  Unfortunately it looks like the Say Yes line discontinued this particular product, which is unfortunate because it does exactly what it says: it really softens your skin.  I also found that it calmed any acne I might have had when using the product.  Once I finish my last tub I'll be on the look out for a replacement.
5. Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream ($13.99)
I'm very pleased with this product.  It smells pleasant and it's lighter than the L'Occitane product I usually use, but just as moisturizing.  A little really does go a long way with this cream and I've noticed the smile lines around my mouth become less pronounced now that I've "quenched" my skin, so to speak.  Another plus is that it's cruelty-free and paraben-free, as are all of the products I use that are listed above.
